PACING

  • 11 destinations in 4 countries in 27 days, with two 4-night stays, four 3-night stays, one 2-night stay, and three 1-night stays
  • A note on pacing: Africa is a massive continent, and we will be traveling the length of it. As such, your internal flights and some transfers may be quite long as compared to other adventures with Vantage. Please keep this in mind as you consider and prepare for this trip
  • There are 9 flights between destinations, ranging from just under one hour to 19.5 hours
  • The longest transfer days involve about 8 hours of traveling by coach, with breaks for sightseeing

PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This trip is rated active
  • During many tours, there is easy to moderate walking
  • Because of the great variety in this adventure, the activity level shown should be considered an average, with many, if not most, excursions well within the capabilities of a reasonably fit traveler
  • Because of the great variety in this adventure, the activity level shown should be considered an average, with many, if not most, excursions well within the capabilities of a reasonably fit traveler.
  • This safari is not appropriate for those who require wheelchairs
  • Our adventure takes us through many airports; in larger cities, such as Johannesburg and Cairo, they can be tiring due to security lines and check-ins
  • Travelers who use CPAP machines should be aware that the rugged and bumpy conditions we’ll experience on some of the roads we’ll use to transfer between destinations have caused damage to (and even broken) many machines. In addition, while electricity is available everywhere you will go, it is not always reliable. Distilled water is generally not available, either. We will certainly be as careful and accommodating as we can, but travelers who use CPAP machines should be aware of these facts when considering a safari

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION

  • We employ many kinds of transportation throughout our adventure, including planes, motorcoaches, ferries, river ships, feluccas, sailboats, cable cars, and funiculars
  • Our most strenuous walks will be around Victoria Falls and within the Selous Game Preserve, where we encounter uneven terrain, dirt roads, paths, paving stones, and high altitude
  • Unfortunately, there are not wheelchair-friendly transfers available from the airport. Additionally, this safari is not appropriate for those who need a wheelchair due to the active nature of the trip

CLIMATE

  • This tour covers a large area so travelers can expect to encounter a range of temperatures, especially on safari
  • South Africa is warmest in January and February, Zimbabwe in October and November, and Botswana in December and January
  • Different areas on the tour have rainy periods at varying times, and every season brings with it a bonus, be it the lush foliage or active game and African wildlife on safari
  • Since the weather is unpredictable, please check weather sites online for 10-day forecasts closer to your departure date to plan your packing accordingly.

Important Notice: The above day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Vantage Adventure Leader or local representatives at the destination.
