PACING

• You’ll visit 11 destinations in 5 countries in 29 nights, with four 3-night stays, eight 2-night stays, and one 1-night stay
• There are three flights between destinations; flight lengths range from 1.5 hours to 5 hours
• There are several 3-5-hour hotel transfers during your journey. The longest transfer day involves about 7-8 hours of traveling with transfers, plus traversing very bumpy gravel roads in safari vehicles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• This trip is rated moderate and not wheelchair-friendly or appropriate for passengers with neck or back troubles
• There is easy-to-moderate walking on this African safari tour. The most strenuous walking will be in Victoria Falls National Park and between terminal buildings at Johannesburg Airport. This airport can be tiring, especially with security lines, check-ins, and the prevalence of marble floors. Other airports are quite small and manageable.
• Travelers who use CPAP machines should be aware that the rugged and bumpy conditions we’ll experience on some of the roads we’ll use to transfer between destinations have caused damage to (and even broken) many machines. In addition, while electricity is available everywhere you will go, it is not always reliable. Distilled water is generally not available, either. We will certainly be as careful and accommodating as we can, but travelers who use CPAP machines should be aware of these facts when considering a safari

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION

• Travelers will use many kinds of transportation, including planes, motorcoaches, mini-buses of various sizes, African safari vehicles, boats and cable car
• You can expect to encounter some slippery and uneven surfaces, including dirt roads, paths, paving stones, and tile

CLIMATE

• This tour covers a large area, so travelers can expect to encounter a range of temperatures, especially on safari. South Africa is warmest in January and February, Zimbabwe in October and November, and Botswana in December and January. Different areas on the tour have rainy periods at varying times, and every season brings with it a bonus, be it the lush foliage or active game and African wildlife on safari.
