Your journey through the Galápagos Islands will be a memorable cruise through paradise. While tourism plays an important part in guaranteeing these islands’ survival, the human footprint is remarkably small. This ensures that you get a true sense of uninterrupted nature. Known for the diversity of endemic species and distinctive landscapes, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter many colorful inhabitants as you explore five of the Galápagos’s most significant islands:
South Plaza Island — Marvel at the beauty of South Plaza, where the turquoise waters contrast brilliantly with the white sand and black lava of the shore. Watch as land iguanas sit patiently beneath a grove of luminescent prickly pear cacti, waiting for pears to drop. On the opposite coast, sea lions bask in the sun, while frigates, swallow‐tailed gulls, and shearwaters glide.
Santa Cruz Island — Pay a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station's giant tortoise breeding center, set within a large prickly pear cactus forest that is home to many land birds. Here at the center, young tortoises are hatched, reared, and readied for reintroduction to their natural habitat. Then, we’ll head to the El Chato Reserve to observe giant Galapagos tortoises in their natural environment.
Isabela Island — Embark on a
panga expedition of this beautiful island while our naturalist guide provides insight on the dramatic geology of the area. Watch for the many species that populate the island, from flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins to fur seals and boobies. Weather permitting, you'll have the chance to snorkel along the cliffs of this marine life-rich area, seasonally visited by green sea turtles and oceanic sunfish.
Fernandina Island — Take time to explore the unique environment of Fernandina, the youngest island of the Galapagos archipelago. Here, you'll find a high density of marine iguanas, sea lions, Sally light-footed crabs, penguins, hawks, and many other fascinating species.
Floreana Island — Enjoy a
panga ride along the maze of channels on the north shore of Floreana Island. We'll revel in breathtaking island views at Baroness Cove, as well as seize the opportunity to snorkel or relax on the pristine beach. Then, we'll set out on
pangas and glass bottom boats to explore the underwater wonders of Champion Islet, an extinct shield volcano, regarded as one of the best snorkeling spots in the archipelago.
