PACING

This adventure is moderately paced
We spend 24 nights cruising aboard the Ocean Explorer, 2 nights in Manaus at the Quality Hotel Manaus (or similar), and 2 nights in Buenos Aires at the Sofitel Buenos Aires Recoleta (or similar)
We spend 8 days cruising the Amazon River and the Atlantic Ocean sea and a total of 19 days exploring the historic, cultural, and natural sites, mostly on half-day tours that conclude by lunchtime

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a tour for moderately active travelers. There are several walking tours throughout
Sightseeing takes place on air-conditioned/heated coaches with guides
Footing can be uneven or challenging in some of the historic and rainforest sites we visit. The cobbled streets of medieval old towns will also require care
Travelers must be able to climb in and out of a small excursion boat
On at least one occasion, travelers must be able to climb in and out of a tender for our transfer to shore

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION

Most shore excursions, especially those in historic cities and in the rainforest, require walking on uneven terrain
Shore excursions utilize air-conditioned shuttles or motorcoaches. During the hotel-based land portion of this trip, a walking tour might leave directly from the hotel, or it too might utilize air-conditioned shuttles or motorcoaches
The tour to view the Meeting of the Waters and fish for piranha utilizes a small excursion boat
On at least one occasion, we tender to shore. In Camboriú, we take a cable car to a hillside Atlantic forest and to Laranjeiras Beach

CLIMATE

Due to the climate, we advise you to pack sunscreen and moisturizer (in the amounts permitted by TSA regulations), and bring a hat and sunglasses as well. If you’re traveling in summer, be sure to bring very cool cotton or linen clothing
Since the weather is unpredictable, please check weather sites online for 10-day forecasts closer to your departure date to plan your packing accordingly

Please note: Ocean cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew.
