What to Expect
Moderately Strenuous Activity Level
Cultural Immersion
PACING:
  • This trip is moderately strenuous paced
  • Your 24-day expedition cruisetour includes 20 nights on board the 5-star Ocean Explorer; plus Deluxe hotel stays for 2 nights total in Edinburgh. (The 24 days includes the day you depart from home and your overnight flight, plus the day you depart for home)
  • Over the course of 24 days you'll visit 11 ports of call in 5 different countries. Sightseeing and expeditions are usually offered in half-day tours, with time to relax every day
  • There are 8 days at sea when you have ample time to relax; attend workshops and lectures presented by your resident lecturer or expediton team; and enjoy the amenities on board your luxury expedition vessel
  • We often cruise overnight but some scenic sailing will be conducted during daylight hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You should be in good health to fully enjoy this tour
  • This journey does require some walking for great distances, you will be on your feet for two to three hours at a time
  • Some more challenging hikes will also be offered
  • Some of your exploration takes place in remote natural settings, historic centers, old villages and archaeological sites where you should be sure-footed
  • Most city sightseeing takes place in air-conditioned coaches with guides. In some remote locations we will use 4x4 vehicles. You should expect some long rides over occasionally bumpy terrain
  • You will have the opportunity to explore in Zodiac boats, hike, kayak, and ride bikes
  • This cruise tour is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please refer to Vantage's wheelchair and handicapped traveler policy

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION:
  • Your ship is your main means of transportation between destinations
  • In cities, land transportation is conducted on board deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoaches
  • Some of your island destinations are remote and rugged, so we will use 4x4 vehicles to get around
  • In some locations you will ride along uneven or bumpy roads, especially in more rural areas or at historical sites
  • You will have several opportunities to explore in small, motorized Zodiac expedition craft. Your expedition team leaders will assist with your embarkation and disembarkation on rugged shores

CLIMATE:
  • This trip takes place during the early fall, when the weather is temperate and there are still ample daylight hours. It should be quite pleasant in Edinburgh, Iceland, Newfoundland, and Boston; the subarctic north Atlantic isles and Greenland are naturally colder. Please refer to the charts in the Before You Go section for more details
  • You will receive a complimentary wind- and rain-resistant expedition jacket as our gift. Otherwise, there will be some temperature variations so it is important to pack accordingly. Bring several pairs of long pants, sweaters, jackets, and warm hats and gloves for those brisk days at sea and island exploration. In general, plan on dressing in layers
  • During your days at sea it can occasionally be windy, and there is a chance of rain in all our locations
  • Cooler temperatures notwithstanding, the sun is glaring and strong in all our destinations so sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are musts

Please note: Ocean cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew.

Important: Day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Cruise Director or regional expert.
