Welcome to Oslo, Norway’s capital city. If you purchased your airfare from Vantage, you’ll be met at the airport by a representative who will transfer you to your centrally located hotel. Take the afternoon to rest or explore the city at your leisure. This evening, you’ll meet your fellow travelers for a Welcome Briefing and Welcome Dinner at the hotel.

Today is reserved for one of Europe’s most eco-friendly and innovative cities — Oslo was named the European Green Capital for 2019, thanks to an array of sustainable city planning efforts. Begin with a panoramic tour, passing by major attractions such as the stunning Oslo Opera House, where you can see its famed, sloped roof that visitors can walk along. You’ll also visit two museums: Learn about lore and legend of mastering the Nordic seas at The Viking Ship Museum, and examine what makes the people and traditions of Norway so special at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, including a large outdoor exhibit of replica period homes.
The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city at your leisure, with lunch and dinner on your own. Stroll around the Grünerløkka neighborhood to shop clothes and trinkets made by Scandinavian designers, or indulge your palate at one of Oslo’s world-class restaurants — your Concierge can help with recommendations and reservations.

Step back into Oslo’s past, then admire its natural beauty
After breakfast this morning, you’ll embark on a walking tour through the historical center of Oslo, called Kvadraturen, as your local guide points out buildings from the 17th and 18th century and tells you the story behind the unmissable, massive sculpture of a hand pointing to the ground. Then, hop on a boat to cruise Oslo Fjord — an inlet that reaches all the way to the North Sea — and admire the city’s surrounding tranquil landscapes. The rest of the day is at your leisure; perhaps you’ll admire the extensive collection of Edvard Munch’s works (including his legendary The Scream) at the newly reopened National Museum, or get a taste of Norwegian coffee culture at any of the many cafés peppered across the city.

Ride the spectacularly scenic Bergen Railway to begin your Norwegian coastal adventure
After a leisurely breakfast, check out of your hotel and get ready for a historic train journey on the Bergen Railway. Stretching across 308 miles and climbing as high as 4,000 feet, this 113-year-old railway took a full 34 years to complete! Admire this feat of engineering as you travel in a comfortable first-class car and enjoy a light lunch while otherworldly views of snow-capped mountains, piercing blue lakes, and dense forests sweep by. Upon arrival in Bergen, you’ll begin Day 2 of your base program.

Explore the White City of the North
This morning after breakfast in your hotel, depart for an included walking tour of the metropolis known as the “White City of the North” and see the Esplanadi, Market Square, Old Market Hall, Senate Square and more. A panoramic coach tour will include a stop at the Rock Church and Sibelius Monument. After enjoying a traditional Finnish lunch, the rest of your day is yours to spend at leisure. Spread across various islands, peninsulas, and hidden coves, Helsinki is an unforgettable tapestry of fascinating architecture, historical treasures, and quirky charm. Perhaps you’ll explore the neoclassical buildings of ornate Senate Square — Finland’s Times Square — or the glittering domes of Uspenski Cathedral. Find a delicious lunch and dinner at local restaurants and cafés. You can also enhance your tour with an optional tour to visit with a local family in their home.
Finland’s naval history beckons
Today you have free time to explore Helsinki independently; perhaps you’ll check out nearby Porvoo, a charming medieval town with cobblestone streets that weave between historic wooden buildings. You can also enhance your trip with our optional tour to Suomenlinna, one of the world’s largest historic maritime fortresses. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a fascinating history dating back to the mid-1700s and is spread out on six islands linked by walking trails. Later, gather with your fellow travelers to toast to your trip and enjoy a Farewell Drink and Farewell Dinner at a popular local restaurant.
