After breakfast today, we’ll delve right into Balinese cooking with a special cooking class at Café Wayan, which opened in 1986 and went on to be featured in Elizabeth Gilbert’s now-classic memoir, Eat Pray Love. After learning to cook local specialties, we’ll eat them, of course! Next, we’ll visit a craft workshop to meet a local kite maker and a puppet master, and learn more about Bali’s rich craft traditions. We’ll return to the hotel this afternoon for more leisure time before dinner.

Visit the mysterious Goa Gajah elephant cave
Today, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before a captivating performance of a Barong and Keris dance, which tells a story about the fight between good and evil spirits. After lunch at a local restaurant, venture to the banks of the Elephant River, where a mysterious cave — known as the elephant cave for its proximity to the river — will welcome us into its lair with relics, ancient lore, and a stone entrance that looks like a menacing face. Legend holds that the stone faces, found throughout, are meant to ward off evil spirits. The cave’s true name is Goa Gajah, which is a significant Hindu site, and it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list in 1995.
Explore Balinese artistic tradition with a painting lesson, then view the ARMA Museum’s collections
We’ll go deeper inside Balinese artistic tradition today with a morning painting lesson that teaches us traditional Balinese techniques. After, we’ll have lunch on our own before we begin a panoramic tour of Bali, which includes a visit to the Agung Rai Museum of Art, otherwise known as the ARMA Museum. Its collection ranges from traditional to contemporary, including classical Kamasan painting on tree bark, masterpieces by Batuan artists of the 1930s and 1940s, and the only works to be seen on the island of Bali by 19th century Javanese artist Raden Saleh Syarif Bustaman. Dinner is at our hotel tonight.

After breakfast you’ll transfer to the Angkor complex for a full day of discovery.
Standing before the cruciform terrace of Unesco-listed Angkor Wat, surrounded by a vast moat, flanked by massive colonnades, and topped by iconic spires, you cannot help but be awed by its sheer scale. The magic continues as you enter the site and see the intricate detail of its many shrines and sculptures. Its layout was meant to mimic Mount Meru, the celestial home of Hindu gods. Enjoy the morning meandering through the centuries-old terraces, pathways, and temples of this hauntingly beautiful treasure. Lunch is included in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, get a glimpse into local life when you visit a traditional Cambodian dance school and learn the stories told through their tinkling music and graceful movements. You’ll also visit a local silkworm farm and see how these precious fabrics are produced.
This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at our hotel with beautifully costumed, traditional dancers providing entertainment.
Wander the ruins of Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm
Your second visit to the Angkor showcases two of the site’s most impressive ruins.
While here you’ll visit Angkor Thom and see its famous Bayon Temple. Adorned with 216 massive, smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara, a beloved manifestation of the Buddha, it is crowned with 54 towers. In atmospheric Ta Prohm, you’ll wander through a lush jungle setting where the strangler fig trees have entwined themselves into the very contours of the stone.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll have the rest of the at leisure to relax at the resort or to return to Angkor Wat on your own. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight.

Siem Reap is actually a cluster of small villages set along the Siem Reap River and Tonle Sap, an important freshwater lake and river system. Today you’ll get a glimpse of the way of life that has been nourished here for centuries on a walking tour through a local village. Perhaps you’ll see newly caught fish being smoked, women making baskets from palm fronds, or monks blessing locals as they make their way to a shrine. Enjoy interacting with the locals and learn their traditional skills, such as palm leaf weaving and more. Then have lunch with your group at a neighborhood restaurant.
