Most walks on this tour are easy to moderate, with short coach rides for sightseeing at places of interest. As there are busy markets, narrow cobbled streets, and some steps, this program is not suitable for passengers with walking difficulties or wheelchairs.

PACING:

• This is a moderately paced and comprehensive Volga River cruise itinerary
• On this 14-day river cruise tour, you'll spend 9 nights on board the MS Crucelake and 9 nights cruising the Volga river, plus travel to St. Petersburg and Moscow, with hotel stays of 2 nights and 1 night, respectively
• In all, you'll visit 6 cities and ports of call
• You'll find Moscow to be an awe-inspiring city with its large boulevards and buildings, but be warned: because of its size and number of people, Moscow is well known for its traffic jams throughout the day and night

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This itinerary is active while in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Traffic conditions in both cities are highly unpredictable and there is a good deal of walking
• You will be visiting several sites and museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kizhi Island where there are multiple flights of stairs; many walking tours require ascending stairs and navigating uneven terrain
• This itinerary incorporates the perfect number of included sightseeing tours leaving you ample time to venture out on your own

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION:

• Motorcoaches are used whenever possible to bring you as close to sites as allowed
• Sightseeing tours use air-conditioned coaches whenever available
• Much of the walking on tours is over uneven terrain, steps, cobblestone walkways, and flagstone paths, especially when visiting the Kremlin
• You can expect a slower pace while cruising

CLIMATE: 

• Expect average temperatures of 65 and lows of 45 F in May and September
• Temperatures peak in the summer, with July traditionally the warmest of the year and highs reaching about 75 
• Rainfall averages about 8-10 days a month between May-September
