Oberammergau Passion Play 2020 Update

UPDATED: Friday, March 20, 2020 4:58 p.m. EST

When the plague swept Europe in 1633, a remarkable thing happened in the tiny Germany village of Oberammergau. Hoping to be spared from the disease, the villagers promised God that they’d perform the story of Jesus’ Passion once every 10 years. For more than 400 years, the villagers have largely kept that promise — with a few exceptions.

Now, as the world navigates the COVID-19 situation, the organizing committee of the Oberammergau Passion Play has postponed it until 2022. This is the third time in world history that the Passion Play has diverted from its 10-year schedule.

We realize that the Passion Play means so much to our travelers, so it is with great disappointment that we announce this delay. In the meantime, we are doing everything in our power to ensure that the wonder that comes with attending this once-in-a-lifetime event is not lost (merely postponed).

We ask for your patience as we review our itineraries due to this change. We will be reaching out to impacted guests with additional information once it becomes available.

If you’re trying to reach us, please note that hold times are longer than normal while we reach out to travelers whose journeys have been immediately impacted. You can always contact us using the chat function on our homepage or by emailing customercare@vantagetravel.com.
